— Canva inks deals with Warner and Merlin to let creators use songs in their content
Starting this fall, that’s going to change for users of Canva, one of the world’s most popular graphic design platforms and described as “the world’s first all-in-one visual communication platform”.
The Australia-headquartered company announced on Thursday a first-of-its-kind partnership with Warner Music Group (MWG) and Merlin, the digital music licensing organization for indie labels and distributors, that will bring commercial music to Canva’s asset library starting this fall.

Amid the growing presence of artificial intelligence, it’s no secret the music industry has been weary of the application’s influence. However, singer-songwriter Will.i.am doesn’t share the same concerns.
He revealed at the Variety Studio presented by Canva at Cannes Lions that he’s leaning into the “whole new renaissance” that AI establishes with music.

The problem, simply, is volume. As of last count, there were an estimated 120,000 new tracks being uploaded to the major streaming services every day. With that much audio content out there, bringing attention to a single new song can be just about impossible for an independent artist.
